Okoume
Aucoumea klaineana
- Primary hardwood
Okoumé is a light salmon-pink hardwood that peels exceptionally well and is the world's principal plywood species, including the marine plywood used in boat building. It is lightweight, easy to work and finishes smoothly, but it is not naturally durable and contains silica that dulls tools. In Cameroon it occurs mainly in the coastal and southern forests bordering Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
