Ayous

Triplochiton scleroxylon

  • Primary hardwood
Ayous, traded internationally as Obeche, is Cameroon's highest-volume export timber. The wood is pale cream to straw-yellow, lightweight and remarkably dimensionally stable once dried, with a fine even texture and slightly interlocked grain. It machines and glues easily, which makes it the default choice for mouldings, joinery blanks and plywood core stock. Its heartwood is not naturally durable, so it is used almost exclusively in interior and protected applications.
