Padouk is instantly recognisable for its vivid orange-red freshly machined surface, which mellows to a warm purple-brown on exposure to light. It is durable, stable and strong, and it turns and finishes beautifully. It is used for flooring, exterior joinery, turnery, tool handles and decorative work. African Pterocarpus populations were added to CITES Appendix II at CoP19.
