Iroko

Milicia excelsa

  • Primary hardwood
Iroko is a durable golden-brown hardwood widely used as a teak substitute. It is naturally very resistant to decay and insect attack without treatment, which makes it a mainstay for exterior joinery, decking, marine work and laboratory worktops. Freshly sawn timber is yellowish and weathers to a rich mid-brown. Occasional hard calcium deposits ("stone") in the log can blunt saw teeth.
