Fromager
Ceiba pentandra
- Softwood
Fromager, the kapok or silk-cotton tree, yields a very light whitish wood that peels easily and is used mainly for plywood core, packaging and light interior work. It has essentially no natural durability and is highly susceptible to fungal and insect attack, so it must be converted and treated promptly. Its lightness and availability make it a staple utility timber.
