Frake

Terminalia superba

  • Primary hardwood
Fraké, sold as Limba or Afara, is a pale straw-coloured, lightweight hardwood that machines and peels very cleanly. Logs with a dark heart streak are marketed as "black limba" and used decoratively, notably for guitar bodies. It is easy to dry and work but is not durable and needs protection outdoors. Used heavily for plywood, joinery and furniture components.
