Essessang is a very light, pale creamy-white wood — one of the lightest commercial timbers of the region — used for floats, model making, packaging and light plywood core. The tree is far better known locally for njangsang, the spice made from its seeds. The wood has no natural durability and must be protected in any exposed use.
