Douka
Tieghemella africana
- Primary hardwood
Douka is traded with Makoré and is a fine-textured pink to blood-red hardwood, sometimes with a shimmering mottled figure that is highly valued in veneer. It is durable, stable and takes a very high finish, and is used for quality joinery, furniture, flooring and boat work. Silica in some logs blunts tooling, and the fine dust is a recognised respiratory irritant.
