Assamela, better known in the trade as Afrormosia, is a fine-textured yellow-brown hardwood that darkens to a warm teak-like tone. It is very durable, strong and stable, and was long used as a direct teak substitute for furniture, joinery and decking. Pericopsis elata has been listed on CITES Appendix II since 1992, so all international trade requires CITES documentation.
